Collage Strip Vignette Panel | Tim Holtz

Hey friends! I received my Ideaology 2024 haul and I couldn’t wait to start playing. The release is amazing especially all the folders and books to make journals which I have yet to try, but plan to soon. I love the beautiful trinkets and my favourite collage strips in a larger size which were the inspiration for this vignette panel.
I covered the vignette panel lightly with white gesso and while waiting for it to dry started tearing up the collage paper using a waterbrush. I only needed it around the edges of the panel definitley don’t want to waste it. Gluing it down using collage medium. After everything has dried I added opaque crackle paste around the sides of the panel and the front on top of the collage paper. Set it aside to dry.

For all the etcetera tiles I wanted them all to be random heights, laying them down on the vignette panel helps you decide how you want them to look. I glued them all together using collage medium and set them a side to dry. With collage medium they dry very quickly. I am not a very patient when making..lol

Now that all the crackle paste is dry I went over it using vintage photo and walnut stain crayon and using the detail brush blended it into the cracks. I did the same on the side of the panel.

Decorating the tiles is my favourite part…I pulled out the new large collage strips and paper strips and strated cutting. Popping up pieces on foam tape add some fun dimension. I used the smaller collage strips for the smaller squares. After I was done making a panel I used walnut stain in and a blending brush and went around all the sides of tile.

Onto the trinkets. I covered the salvage heart using pink sherbert alchohol ink. For the typed tag, heart and sentiment I covered it using picket fence crayon and rubbed it in with my fingers and added a hammered in fastener. I sanded down the stencil chip and embossed it using the sparkle 3d embossing folder and covered parts of it with black soot archival ink to finish it I added a mini fastener to the top and bottom. I painted the flower and wreath using distress paints. All the trinkets were glued down using collage medium.

For the final step I hammered in tack nails between some of the tiles. For this part be careful with the underside, It creates a bed of nailes..I did learn the hard way. After I finished I cut a felt pieced and glued it over so that the nails were covered.

To finsih of the panel I added some black and white splatters. Looking forward to putting this up on the wall in my craftroom. Hope you liked my step by step if you have any questions leave them in the comments and I answer them. Happy crafting.

Hi? I love this panel and want to make one. I wanted to ask you if you doubled up on the chips to do the layering? I also see paint in the description of different colors that I don’t see that in the directions.? I appreciate you saying that if we had questions we could write to you. Thank you so much.? char

I love this so much. I’m curious how did you do the part with the embossing folder and the stencil chip? Thank you.
