Bottle Brush Trees | Tim Holtz

After so many amazing responses and dms to my Bottle Brush Tree Card that I made for Tim Holtzs live I decided to recreate the card showing step by step.
Enjoying the process is probably this biggest thing I can say about this card. It is very time consuming but I had alot of fun and created it over a few evenings afterwork.

Now the fun part….embossing the trees. I found my distress watercolor cardstock needed the embossing buddy first before stamping and embossing to avoid color transfer.

This part was the time consuming part. There is alot of cutting but not too bad especially adding in the ground espresso to show off the parts that I didn’t cut. Careful cutting the bases, I unfortunatey ended up cutting a couple off but should be ok when I go to glue them onto the cardstock. Go over the image using a dry cloth or papertowel to remove all the excess ink.

Before the background panel I used distress sprays salty ocean, antique linen and speckled egg. I stamped images for Deptartment Store using hickory smoke archival ink. Stenciled on pinecones with opaque crackled paste and some translucent paste in corners which i coated with walnut stain crayon. for the snow on the bottom I layered on opaque paste and covered with rock candy.

The fun part was layering all the gorgous trees on the panel. I added splatters using picket fence distress paint and snowfall grit paste to the bottom of the trees.

To finish off the card I popped up the panel onto fun foam and a card base. Sentiment from the newest christmas ideaology baseboards.

So beautiful! And a QUESTION please? You said that…There is alot of cutting but not too bad especially adding in the ground espresso to show off the parts that I didn’t cut…. It is my brain I’m sure but could you explain please about adding ground espresso? I thought you cut the stamped images out completely. What part did you not cut and how was ground espresso used? Sorry for my confusion and thank you!
Kulbir Kirkland
Hi Jan , thank you so much for the kind comments. I only cut on the edges trees and went over the entire tree with ground espress and wiped off the excess. It gives it the illusion that I cut all the way in which I didn’t . Hoping that explains it .

Did you seriously fussy cut these? It’s a great card, I just love it… but man that must have taken a lot of time, and patience!
Kulbir Kirkland
lol yes Tammy I did cut them out. It didn’t bother me, I put on a movie and just started cutting.

What a beautiful card! Thank you for the links. One question. Could you explain a little bit what you meant by, “There is a lot of cutting but not too bad especially adding in the ground espresso to show off the parts that I didn’t cut.”? What didn’t you cut? Sorry, it’s probably clear to everyone else! Thank you.

Thank you so much Beth. I didn’t cut all the way into the tree, just on the edges. I went over with ground espress which makes it look like I did.
